Alright - so many people asked me if I was going to do a blog similar to the one Blaine and I did for the TransRockies for my adventure to the Olympics. Well... I guess, based on the popularity (which Blaine and I never fully anticipated), I will certainly do my best once I get there!
As a member of the volunteer medical team, I have been assigned to the cross country events at Whistler for the games, responsible for athlete care as a ski patroller. I have been posted with a couple from Squamish (which was a little adventure in of itself) as part of a homestay program. I have my good friend Maggi to thank for letting me in that there was an extra bed with this host family - and upon 'talking' to them through email, it turns out that they are outdoor enthusiasts like me. So, it looks like the Rocky will be making it's SECOND trip out west in a box!
Just imagine: roller duffel, bike box, and a ski bag being carried through the airport. Yep, should be interesting to say the least.
I will certainly do my best to keep this updated with pictures and what's going on from my perspective at the games. We have been instructed that we are not allowed to take pictures or use cell phones while we are on duty - so unfortunately, you won't see many pictures of things 'in action'. Ah well - it sounds like there will be enough entertainment OFF duty as there will be on.
I take off for Vancouver on February 10th - flight leaves at 7 in the morning Toronto time... so yeah, an early morning. For those of you who are in a guessing mood - we'll start a friendly pool: how much in overage charges is WestJet going to charge me? You can start on the 'poll' - or, as the day gets a little closer (and I actually get packed), I will take a picture of the three packed bags (will happen either Sunday or Monday night...), and you can take a guess. I'll post their approximate weight too. At least it's not Air Canada or United.
Take care!
